Principal Investigator
Martino Poggio
Martino
Poggio received his A.B. in
physics from Harvard University in 2000 and
his Ph.D. from the
University of California, Santa Barbara in
2005. In graduate
school he worked for Prof. David Awschalom on
ultrafast optics and
semiconductor spintronics. After receiving
his doctorate, he
started work as a post-doctoral fellow at the Center
for Probing the
Nanoscale, a joint center between Stanford University
and IBM
Corporation funded by the National Science Foundation.
Until
late 2008 he worked In this capacity in Dr. Dan Rugar's lab at
the
IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA on high sensitivity
nuclear magnetic resonance force microscopy. In the summer of
2008, he was elected Argovia Professor at the University of Basel and
he started work there in January of 2009. Prof. Poggio is a
member
of the American Physical Society.

Post Doctoral Researchers
Fei Xue (薛飞)
Dr. Fei Xue received his Bachelor of Science in 1999
and his Ph.D. in Physics in 2004, both from the University of Science
and Technology of China. His research was mainly devoted to
experimental realizations of quantum information processing using
liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. From 2004 to 2006 he was a
post doctoral fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the
Chinese Academy of Sciences. There he pursued his interests in
theoretical questions of quantum control. From 2006 to 2007 he was a
visiting researcher at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research
(RIKEN). From 2007 to 2009 he was a post doctoral fellow working on
experiments led by Prof. Eyal Buks at the Technion in Israel. Dr. Xue
joined the lab in December 2009.

Hari Shankar Solanki
Dr. Hari Shankar Solanki received his Bachelor of
Science in 2003 from CSJM University in Kanpur India followed in 2005
by his Masters in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology in
Roorkee. In late 2011, he earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research under the supervision of Dr. Mandar
Deshmukh. His thesis, titled "Semiconducting nanowire
electromechanics," focuses on low-temperature transport experiments
performed on nanowire devices in a regime where both single-electron
physics and nanomechanics play an important role. Dr. Solanki joined
the lab in August 2011.

Paolo Navaretti
Dr. Paolo Navaretti received his Laurea
degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino in
Turin, Italy in 2002. In 2006, he earned his Ph.D. in Electronic
Engineering from the EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies at
the University of Sheffield, UK. He went on to work as a
post doctoral researcher at the Ultrafast Laser Physics group at the
ETH in Zurich, Switzerland from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 until 2011 he
held the position of project manager at EXALOS AG, an company involved
in making superluminescent light-emitting diodes. Dr. Navaretti
started working as a joint post doctoral researcher between our group
and the group of Prof. Christian
Degen at the ETH in March of 2012. His work is part of the Poggio
and Degen labs' continuing collaboration, which is facilitated by the
NCCR QSIT.
Dr. Navaretti's work will benefit both groups, but he will be mostly
located at ETH.
