Ph.D. student Dennis Weber shows his affection for our newly arrived 4He cryostat in December 2009. This cryogenic system was the second of three to be installed in our lab.

  • Nanowires as Scanning Force Sensors

    A new type of atomic force microscope (AFM) uses nanowires as tiny sensors. Unlike standard AFM, the device with a nanowire sensor enables measurements of both the size and direction of forces.
